Welcome to "CCPA Believes"
CCPA Believes will be a running series. Every month a member of CCPA, starting with the leadership team, will post their "I Believe" statement. This is modeled after ACPA Believes member program (
ACPA Believes). Influenced by the 1950s radio show by Edward R. Murrow and the National Public Radio Series, and reintroduced in 2006 by Allison and Gediman, This I Believe, the ACPA Believes/I Believe project encourages educators to a align personal beliefs with professional practice grounded in scholarship. Please visit the ACPA website if you would like to submit your This I Believe statement:

I believe in Sunlight… I’m not sure if it’s the warmth on my skin or the brightness in the sky, but beautiful sunny days give me strength, motivation and energy to complete my work and rejuvenate my soul. The effects of sunlight exposure are scientific as well as psychological, so I know it’s not just me. However, the joyous memories that sun and summer time evoke are the things I’ll share with...

I believe in music because it speaks to my soul. Growing up in South America, I was surrounded by vibrant sounds of reggae, calypso and steel band music. The beauty of this profession is the balance between routine and spontaneity. While we can schedule meetings, programs and conferences, we also have those unexpected events that pop up – such as the student who walks into our office looking...

I believe in using your vacation days
Unless you work in Orientation, I realize the theme of my “This I Believe” statement comes at an odd time considering summer just ended. I do not work in Orientation, but for every one balanced student affairs colleague, I know two more of us whose personal lives are a little off kilter. I’m included in the latter bunch, so this statement of belief also serves as a...
